What is Load planning workbench in Ax 2012 R3 1

Load planning workbench can be considered as a central monitoring system for all the logistical aspects of the business/item transactions. Any order purchase/sale/production/transfer can be associated to load(s) and then the users from various departments can use this centralize platform to monitor various tasks and activities. I have tried to lay down some of the benefits or possible usages of Load Planning Workbench.

LPW

When we talk about a Purchase/Sale/Production orders the aspects that are involved can be termed as:

  1. Intimating the Warehouse people for any upcoming Inbound/outbound transaction,
  2. Planning Transportation from Source to Destination
  3. Planning storing to maintain Inventory
  4. Planning Transportation to Destination from own warehouse
  5. Maintain loads for various shipment and plan the capacity utilization
  6. Plan the Routes & Rates to optimize transportation cost
  7. Enable users to do Rate/Route Shopping and selecting the most economical and convenient way to ship goods.
  8. Plan transport, register the transport details including the driver in/out times.
  9. Set the transportation costs.

Below are some explanation on how we can utilize the LPW in Purchase & Sales.

Purchase

Consider there is a large consignment being prepared for dispatch by the vendor.

Following would happen:

  1. Vendor will send a ASN (Advance shipment notification)
  2. The transport if borne for us, we will have to plan it as per the best Rate/Route/Required date/Mode of delivery
  3. Keep the Warehouse workers informed on the arrival so that the unloading bay can be cleared along with proper planning of resources (man/machine/storage) required for receiving.
  4. Schedule appointment for the inbound consignment so that docking bay can be made available.
  5. Monitor the costs of the transportation (if borne by us)
  6. Raise transporters’ invoice in case of third party transport service is used.

Sales

Consider we are preparing consignment for dispatch to the customer

Following would happen:

  1. Warehouse workers can use the information and plan a smooth dispatch
  2. We can plan the Loading dock to be available
  3. The transport if borne for us, we will have to plan it as per the best Rate/Route/Required date/Mode of delivery
  4. Paid transport requested by customer, then also we can plan the cost efficient Rate/Route.
  5. Schedule appointment for the outbound consignment so that docking bay can be made available.
  6. Monitor the costs of the transportation (if charged to customer)
  7. Raise transporters’ invoice in case of third party transport service is used.

There can be many more scenario and functionalities that LPW can perform, the above are just small glimpse of what the system provides.

Happy Learning.!
